* * * * 4.5/5 Review by Engelus
The Ninja of the Katana Series.
Simple, elegent, surprising.
Lets get to the juicy bits then in this review, balance wise, perfect. Just like a Katana in that the weight is like most swords balanced and yet shifted towards the handle. About 4/6 of it is in the handle. Very balanced, it is very simple and yet the wood/screw/pummel detail on the handle is what helps keep this sword from looking too simple.
Simple is good, btu too simple looks like well, Generation 1 stuff and thats not what Calimacil's about. The Blade, personally I would love a new blade, the tip is Designed for stabs and thursts so you don't worry about poking eyes out, etc. And quite frankly with the Scabbard that goes with it, you'de never see the tip because your sword is out, flashing and striking down foes and then back in classic Hollywood movie style. (And now I plug the rumors of Calimacil's Facebook updates of a new katana blade design is underway...)
But the wave design that quite frankly seals the deal is what makes this sword so nice. You can run your fingers over it and feel it, and in doing so you really just want to go to town on something/one.
The Handle is firm so no worries on "butterfingers" moments, those embarassing "my sword slipped otu of my hands" moments will be all you, the handle is nice and solid. (but not enough solid to make it an issue)
The length feels right, being 6'3 myself it's hard to find a sword that suits someone tall and yet not muscalur or larger. This one feels just right in my hands. Perfect for a hand and a half or two handed. One handed It's abit much for me, but my good friend personally loves to duel weild these with great joy and a crazied laugh.
A personal favourite of mine, (being the only Calimacil I also have a Scabbard for) The only reason I don't rate this as a 5/5 for being one of my most used is that it is not the Tiger's Wind. I save that extra .5 for the detail that beauty has.
I recommend this sword for anyone interested in Calimacil but unsure, any fan of Samurai or themes of that nature or simply for Sword practise. Excellent for Non-Player Characters as well as they are plain and easily disguised with fur, cloth, paint, etc.
On the Note of paint, Calimacil recommends Warhammer figure paint, not sure what it is but it works wonders though abit pricey. So If you want a unique flair or a touch of color or details, have at. You can also find online how to properly add wraping to yoru handle for a real touch of tradition. (Posted on 12/29/10)
